A New Mural in La Center !
Along with its goal of developing a strong inclusive artistic community, the La Center Arts Council is doing its part to beautify La Center, one wall at a time.
As Sam and Trista Glackler moved closer to opening their new restaurant in La Center, Exit 16 Sips and Scoops, they realized that the wall of their outdoor patio needed something to make it more inviting and fun for patrons. Sam and Sandy Pearson of the La Center Arts Council kicked around an idea, brought it to LCAC Director Kirsten Peterson’s attention, and the idea bloomed.
Kirsten designed a mural with the theme “All things La Center.” It included both iconic images connected to La Center as well as the lives of the Glackler family. Sam brews and distributes his own beer under the label Exit 16 Bewing. The family raises animals as well, including Highland cattle, horses and pigs.
The La Center Arts Council presented the design to Sam and Trista for their approval on August 2026. Once it was approved, council members began by applying a base coat of neutral gray. Work on the actual mural began on August 20, 2026. Everyone on the council board, as well as other La Cernter Arts Council members, had a hand in completing the mural, which took about five weeks.
The restaurant had its opening on September 10, 2026. The mural was completed on October 22.
The finished mural includes: brewing tanks, hop plants, the La Center bridge and Columbia River, dice and playing cards, the Make Mine Milk barn, a Highland cow, horse and pig, lavender, blueberries and a lot of wildlife and plants that make this area their home.
You can see the mural at Exit 16 Sips and Scoops, 305 NW Pacific Highway, La Center, WA.

La Center Wildlife Illustration Trail Marker Project
This project was instigated by our founding father, Dan Masterson, who is renowned for his detailed ink drawings of northwest landscapes. La Center Arts Council held a wildlife illustration contest to collect images of local fauna and, with the cooperation of the City of La Center, have them reproduced on plaques to be installed along La Center's many miles of trails.
The goal is to engage the public with their experience of our environment, bridging the arts with outdoor athletics and nature lovers.
